"Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 5:10). Government and Evangelical monitoring groups identify more than 60 countries around the globe where Christians face active, often violent persecution solely because of their professed faith in Jesus. We need to educate ourselves about this issue, raise our voices on behalf of the victims and survivors, and
talk to our children about the reality of global persecution targeting the Body of Christ.
Of course, one of the paradoxes of church history—which has been proven over and over through the centuries—is that the Body of Christ often flourishes under such conditions. Countless inspiring stories testify to the purity of faith refined by fire.
Still, those enduring hostile environments all over the world for the sake of the Gospel certainly need our prayers. As believers, we should prioritize the importance of caring for and praying for these brothers and sisters in Christ. " ... God has so composed the body ... that the members may have the same care for one another. If one member suffers, all suffer together ... " (I Corinthians 12:24-26). "So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith." (Galatians 6:10).
