Dear Friend,
Over the last few weeks, we have been sharing with you about the budget battles in Washington, D.C., and how those could impact abortion sellers like Planned Parenthood®. That debate will continue next week as the House and Senate consider yet another spending bill--this time with the hopes of approving a budget for the federal government's operations for the remainder of the year. It is crucial that pro-life provisions, including the defunding of Planned Parenthood®, be included in the final bill.
Planned Parenthood® has argued that they provide basic health care services for women and defunding their organization would put many low-income women at risk. But a quick look at the data shows that there are almost 8,000 federally funded healthcare clinics providing comprehensive health care to 24 million low-income patients in the U.S. each year. Almost eight thousand clinics--outnumbering Planned Parenthood® clinics 10 to 1.
So why is Planned Parenthood® claiming that if it loses government funding, women will suffer from lack of access to basic health care? Is there something special that Planned Parenthood® offers that most other clinics do not?
The answer is yes. And that "something special" is abortion. Planned Parenthood® does offer basic "reproductive" health care services for women, but the most lucrative portion of its business is killing the preborn. The group raked in an estimated $191 million (nearly half of its health-center income) performing more than 330,000 abortions in 2009.
That makes Planned Parenthood® responsible for nearly 1 in every 3 abortions performed in America. It is no small wonder that a woman who entered a Planned Parenthood® clinic was nearly 42 times more likely to abort her baby than to receive an adoption referral or prenatal care from Planned Parenthood®.
What does this all really mean? It means Congress must stop giving our hard-earned tax dollars to a group that makes money from performing abortions. In 2008, Planned Parenthood® received almost $90 million in federal money.
Standing together--for life
Congress has two weeks until the current spending bill that provides for our federal government's 2011 operations is set to expire. Will our lawmakers in the House and Senate have the courage to say "no more" to Planned Parenthood®? Or will they back down in the face of this powerful lobbying group?
|
Together, we must pray that our elected officials make wise choices on behalf of preborn babies. |
|
Let's not grow weary in fighting for the preborn. Even though we face an uphill battle at the federal level, states are passing more pro-life legislation than ever before. Please take a moment to watch our CitizenLink Report video to learn more about recent pro-life victories in the states.
Thank you for standing with us in defense of life.
For faith and family,
