Dear Friends,
In the book of John, Jesus tells us to love one another so that the world will know we are his disciples.
"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another." — John 13:34-35 (ESV)
But how do we encourage our kids to live out those words in their daily lives? As parents, do we know what skills God has given them for loving others at home and at school?
We’ve got a great way for you to find out!
In his practice as a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), Danny Huerta, Vice President of Parenting and Youth at Focus on the Family, has found that kids’ ways of showing God’s love falls into three categories: Noticer, Builder, and Connector.
A Noticer is someone who sees the people no one else does. They identify those who are alone, hurting, and in need of God’s love. They notice the little things and have compassion for those around them who may be struggling.
A Builder is someone who fuels others. They are natural encouragers. They are purposeful, active participants. They look for ways to encourage others and are comfortable doing so. They are keenly aware they’re building within God’s kingdom.
A Connector is someone who bridges gaps with (and between) other people. They work to create a sense of peacefulness in groups. They are aware of what God is doing, because they can see “connection points.”
Which one is your child most like? To find out, have them take this quiz. You can take it, too! Discover the skills God has given you and your child and go out and love others together!
