Do you want to win? Success in any team sport depends on the willingness of the various players, with differing skill sets, to minimize their individual interests in order to focus on working together for the common goal. It's the same way in marriage. That's one of the themes of today's Focus on the Family® radio broadcast, "Cultivating a Kingdom Marriage," featuring well-known pastor and author Dr. Tony Evans.
Drawing from his book Kingdom Marriage, Dr. Evans shares insights about God's design for the relationship between husband and wife, and offers practical advice to couples. He emphasizes that unity is oneness of purpose, not sameness of persons.
Tony suggests that the biggest threat to unity is trying to make your spouse more like you, or like someone you think you wish they were. Recognizing and celebrating what each partner brings to the marriage allows a couple to maintain (or regain, if necessary) what drew you together originally.
