Improve Your Listening Skills to Better Understand Your Spouse

"So not only are you late for dinner, but once again you come home and head straight for the mail," Leslie complained to her husband, John. "Maybe I should become a piece of mail and put a stamp on my forehead. Then I might get some attention and feel important."
John rolled his eyes and sighed, continuing to sort through envelopes. Here we go again, he thought.
Leslie's anger intensified. "John, don't ignore me."
Like many couples, Leslie and John came to us for counseling because they were unable to resolve conflict.

Building Your Child’s Identity
My 10-year-old son wanted to welcome Jack into our neighborhood, so he offered Jack one of his favorite toys: a pogo stick. I was proud of my son's thoughtfulness, but puzzled over why he gave away something so valuable to someone he didn’t yet know.
Then one day Jack decided he didn’t want to play with another boy in the neighborhood, a kid my son had been friends with for years. My son had to choose: risk losing Jack’s friendship by remaining loyal to the other boy or reject a longtime friendship in the hopes of pleasing his new friend. |
